Aim
To provide a forum for teachers, lecturers, researchers and others interested in the language, society and culture of German-speaking countries

Who we are
The Association for Modern German Studies was founded in 1983 in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut. In November 2000 the Standing Conference on ab initio German in the UK and Ireland joined forces with the AMGS.

Association members come from Secondary Schools, from Higher and from Further Education. The Association is a non-profit-making organisation administered by a panel which meets regularly to plan events and publications.

What we do
organise at least one conference a year

publish conference proceedings in a refereed journal

produce Arbeitsmaterialien linked to a conference for debate and use in the classroom

send out an annual newsletter to keep members up-to-date with the Association's activities

maintain and develop this website.
